Installation and Setup

Connecting an STB to the Internet

The best way to connect an STB to the Internet is by using an Ethernet cable.  Android boxes have built in wi-fi but my experience has been that using wi-fi to connect an IPTV STB to the Internet causes problems 99% of the time.  It causes more buffering, which is when the picture intermittently freezes and which can be extremely annoying.  Use an Ethernet cable and it’s a problem that you will never have to worry about.

To connect to the Internet using wi-fi with an Android Box:

  1.  Select Settings and press OK.
  2.  Select Network and press OK.
  3.  Select WiFi and press OK.
  4.  Use the down button on the remote to scroll down and highlight your wifi network, and press OK. A keyboard will pop up.
  5. Enter your password and press OK.
  6. It will say “Connecting to (your wi-fi name)” , then “Connected Sucessfully”.
  7. Now whenever you are connected by wifi the wifi symbol will appear up at the top of the main screen. Note that when when first turn the box on that it will take several seconds for the wifi to connect.

To connect to the Internet using wi-fi with a MAG Box:

Note: The MAG boxes do not have built in wi-fi. If you want to use wi-fi then you need a wi-fi adapter that plugs into the USB port

  1. Go to System settings
  2. Select Network and press OK
  3. Select Wireless(Wi-Fi) and press OK
  4. Select Auto (DHCP) and press OK. If you do not see any wi-fi networks listed then you might need to press the red F1 key on the remote to enable wi-fi.
  5. Select your wi-fi  network from the list and press OK
  6. Scroll down to the bottom, enter your wi-fi password and press OK

Connecting the STB to your TV

Use an HDMI cable to connect the STB to one of the HDMI ports on your TV. These labled HDMI1, HDMI2, HDMI3, etc., the use the Input button your TV remote to select whichever HDMI port it’s plugged into. Thereafter use the remote that came with the STB to navigate and switch between channels.

Installing Apps on an Android STB or a Smart TV

If you buy an STB from a vendor of IPTV services then they might have already programmed it and installed the IPTV apps. But if you bought your Android box someplace else, or want to try a new service that wasn’t available when you bought the box then you will need to install the app or apps yourself.

Note that if you bought your Android box someplace else then you will also want to uninstall all of the junk apps they put on the boxes. These are apps that you will never use but that will eat up memory and could interfere with IPTV . This includes apps like Skype, Facebook, Twitter and free IPTV services that, unless you are a teenager with no money living with your parents, will be of no value whatsoever and will just cause problems.

Method #1 (preferred)

  1. You will need a USB stick (llave malla in Spanish). Any size will do.
  2. Using a web browser download the .apk file from the link provided by the IPTV vendor.
  3. Unless you change the settings, the default for web browsers is to download files to a folder called “download”, in which case you will have to copy it from the download folder to a USB stick.
  4. If your web browser gives you a “Save As” option then you can download it directly to the USB stick.
  5. Once the .apk file is on the USB stick Insert it into your STB. Android boxes usually have two USB ports and either one will do.
  6. Select Apps, then AppInstaller. Navigate to the .apk file on the USB stick, press OK and follow the instructions. If your box does not have an AppInstaller then you can use a file browser.
  7. Once successfully installed exit out.
  8. You can add the icon for the new app to your favorites bar by selecting the + icon on the favorites list, then selecting the icon of the new app which will put a check mark on it. Exit out and the icon will then appear in your favorites list.
  9. If you wish to remove any icons from your favorites list follow the same procedure except uncheck the icon you wish to remove.

Method #2

This method requires that you use Google Play Store to first download and install an app called “FireDL”. I never use this method because Google Play Store requires an account and as soon as you enter your account information they begin collecting data on you, forever. Also I cannot use this method to program boxes for other people because then my account would be on their box .

  1. Open Google Play Store and download the app “FireDL”.
  2. Open FireDL and up at the top where is says Fire DL enter the URL that was provided by the IPTV vendor.
  3. After the file has downloaded navigate to it and click OK to install it.
  4. Proceed with step 7. above.
